HISTORY OF
KINGDOM BUILDERS CHURCH INTERNATIONAL

Kingdom Builders Church International is a ministry birthed out of prayer, with its genesis traced back to September 8, 1999 when Wednesday evening prayer meetings - attended by only nine people - began in the home of Pastor Darryl L. Grant.

On October 30, 1999, Kingdom Builders World Outreach Church was incorporated as a non-profit corporation in the state of North Carolina and almost two years later, on October 16, 2001, Kingdom Builders World Outreach Church, Inc. was renamed Kingdom Builders Church International.

The newly-established Kingdom Builders Church International, held its first Sunday morning worship service on October 21, 2001 at James Martin Middle School’s cafetorium at 11:00 am. There were 72 persons in attendance at this inaugural worship service, and regular Sunday morning and Wednesday evening worship services continued thereafter.

Although worship services were being held at James Martin Middle School, there was an ongoing search, helmed by Pastor Grant and the KBCI Administrative Team, for a church building. As a result of this search, a building, located at 3925 Beasley Lane (formerly Beasley’s Funeral Home) which was first sighted by Deacon George Sharpe, was inspected by the Administrative Team of KBCI on June 28, 2002. A proposal to lease the building was then immediately submitted to the building’s owners. This proposal was subsequently denied a few days later, as the owner’s desire was only to sell - not lease - the building.

On July 10, 2002, in light of the direction in which the church was heading, Pastor Grant was led of the Lord to teach from Ezekiel 37: 1-14 on the subject of "Divine Order". Less than one month later, on August 6, 2002, Deaconess Dorothy Kithcart received a call from the real estate agent who stated that the owner had reconsidered and was now open to leasing the building to the church. As there were plans underway for KBCI’s first series of special services, Pastor Grant met with the Administrative Team and shared that the Lord would respond prior to August 16, 2002 (the deadline for securing meeting room reservations at the University Hilton) and that God would provide a permanent location for the church! The confirming scripture upon which Pastor Grant relied was Proverbs 21:1: "[t]he King’s heart is in the Hand of The Lord…He turns it wherever He wishes."

After numerous meetings, negotiations, and several visits to the building, the Pastor shared a word from the Lord at the September 11, 2002 Wednesday evening service that "the worst is over, and the best is yet to come." Pastor Grant further encouraged that "it can’t get any worse than this; it can only get better" and he spoke from Deuteronomy 1:1-8 which states: "[w]e had dwelt long enough at THIS mountain…go in and possess the land which the Lord swore to you." This word proved prophetic because on September 12, 2002, Deaconess Dorothy Kithcart received a faxed letter of intent from the building’s owners consenting to lease the building to KBCI.

Ultimately, despite the struggles, challenges and setbacks along the way, the KBCI family continued to pray and believe God for the supernatural to be done on our behalf. Pastor Grant received strength from God which allayed his concern and allowed him to continually encourage the people. Then, on October 28, 2002, the Executive Committee (consisting of Pastor Darryl L. Grant, Minister Ronald Dean and Deaconess Dorothy Kithcart) signed a three-year lease, with an option to buy the new church home, situated on four acres of land in the West Charlotte community and encompassing 17,000 square feet. This signing occurred four months to the date of the building inspection conducted by the Administrative Team, and approximately one year after beginning worship services at James Martin Middle School.

With only six days to prepare the dwelling for the first Sunday Morning Worship service, KBCI held it’s first Sunday morning Worship Service in our new building on November 3, 2002. Then, on August 18, 2005, KBCI purchased the leased property and we now stand as the proud owners of this location.

Since KBCI’s inception, the Lord, in his grace and mercy, has bestowed bountiful blessings upon this ministry which has continued to grow, even opening the Kingdom Builders Bookstore on June 24, 2006 and, two months later, launching the Kingdom Builders School of Ministry. The School of Ministry began its first semester on August 15, 2006, and expects to hold commencement exercises for its first graduating class at the end of the Spring 2009 semester.
